Scaling Your Business with Old School Tactics: The Real Secret Sauce
Real Advice for Home Service Business Owner - Straight from My Chat on the Blue Collar Prosperity Podcast
Ready to finally cut through the noise about scaling your home service business? I went on the “Blue Collar Prosperity” Podcast to spill all my real-world advice, no fluff, just honest strategies you can start using right now. We got into the nitty gritty: why relationships still win in a digital world, how simple thank yous get you more jobs, why picking up your phone is a gamechanger, and how to make referral partnerships that actually work. I share what I’ve learned working with businesses from the ground up and what you can do differently this week for more consistent leads, better closing rates, and a business you’re actually excited to run. If you’re tired of chasing after Google’s latest trick or wondering if AI is going to take your customers, trust me, these old school tactics are working better than ever.
My Story: From Tech Nerd to “Get Stuff Done” Guy
Hey, it’s Bryan here. If you caught my episode on Blue Collar Prosperity, you heard how I started as a legit tech geek back in the 90s. I built and sold a tech support company, did the sales thing, and eventually landed in sunny Naples, Florida, helping all kinds of service businesses get out of their own way. I wrote my book and started MVP Team Pro because, like you, I got tired of wearing all the hats and figured there had to be a smarter way to build the business I wanted, not just settle for the one I had.
Forget “Growth Hacks”- It’s All About Real Relationships
Here’s the deal: most people try to solve their lead problems with more money for ads, fancier websites, or the latest software. I’ll say it straight, half of that isn’t nearly as effective as getting serious about referral partners. I mean REAL relationships. I’m talking about finding the HVAC owner, painter, or realtor in your town that you’d trust in your own house, then sending them actual business, not just asking for theirs, but going first and making their life easier. That’s how you get consistent, warm leads without breaking the bank or depending on Google to actually throw you a bone.
Multichannel Isn’t Just Nerd Speak: Stand Out, Be Memorable
I love good tech, but what works is what makes people remember you. Send a handwritten thank you note. Seriously, when was the last time someone did that for you? Or maybe you know a client’s kid just graduated? Send a small gift. Doesn’t have to break the bank! It’s these touches that keep you at the top of their mind, way after everyone else spams their inbox. Heck, sometimes partnering with people outside your obvious circle, like interior designers or property managers, opens up a new world for partnerships.
The Simplest (and Wildly Effective) Tactic: Answer Your Phone
I sound like a broken record, but just… answer the phone. Out of 800 service businesses I called, only 125 even picked up. Can you believe that? That could be you winning those jobs while everyone else is “too busy” or has a full voicemail. If you want more sales, just be the one who shows up and cares.
Want a Quick Win? Say “Thank You”
This one’s the easiest to do and almost nobody does it. Go back to your old clients, people who referred you, folks you wish you’d worked with, just say thanks. No selling, no pitch, just “Hey, appreciate you giving us a shot.” Watch what happens. Old leads wake up, new jobs pop up, and you build a rep as someone people want to refer.
